Welcome

There are periods in our lives when we are confronted with challenging times – life’s storms.  Oftentimes these storms can be difficult to navigate alone.  You may feel like there is no hope of success; you know you cannot do it alone but you don’t know who to turn to; you are afraid of reaching out to someone; you don’t want to be a burden to others or you have just given up altogether.  Nature shows us that storms come with varying strength – some of them can be powerful, damaging, and devastating.  No matter how powerful the storm may be, it will eventually pass and the sun will emerge once again.  Clean up after a storm can be tough but with help from others, it is not an impossible task.

Throughout my life I have been drawn to the ocean. Its majesty can be soothing, invigorating and violent in turn. There is little more soothing than watching a beautiful sunrise over calm seas and possibly nothing more frightening than being tossed around in high seas ravaged by a storm. I’ve often thought of the changing moods of the ocean as an analogy for the constant ebb and flow of our lives.

In life you will have times when the tides feel like they are going to swallow you and times when the waters are calm, serene and magnificent.  Tides ebb and flow.  When you get to a time in your life when the storms come and you feel like the tides have swallowed you and you have nowhere to turn, it is important to seek help from others.  It is my goal to help you navigate through life’s storms.

If you, your family or a loved one is experiencing anxiety, depression, low self esteem, difficulty with anger management and conflict resolution, codependency, addiction, grief and loss, school or work challenges, or marital conflict, please contact me today.  Together we can achieve balance again and get back to the calm waters that we all desire.

Sincerely,

Matthew Whalen, M.Ed., LPC
